The search terms attached to the clips are not in English. They are in the everyday mixed vernacular of South African townships — words that only work for someone who grew up hearing them — and that settles who this is for. It is not an export product assembled for an outside audience. It circulates among people who may well recognise a face in it.

The description the site publishes of itself lists its subjects by country, several of them under the heading of material that got out, so origin is being used as a shelf label the way genre would be elsewhere.

The clips run in seconds rather than minutes. Ten seconds, half a minute, fifty seconds — phone footage, carrying no performer name, no production credit and nothing about how any of it was obtained. One is badged as private, which is a label with nowhere good to go.

The interface offers two dozen European and Asian languages it has no use for, inherited from whatever tube software this was built on. The packaging is generic; what is in it is not.
