The archive index runs month by month back to the spring of 2005. Two decades of the same thing, which for a user-submitted site is remarkable — most of these die within a year of whoever founded them losing interest.

What keeps it going is the format. Members are set dares, complete them, and submit the photographs afterwards; entries carry the participant's handle and the dare they were doing, and past dares are flagged as such so the archive reads as a record of completed challenges rather than a gallery. Stories, audio and a suggestions section extend the same idea, and the community responds to what is posted.

That structure puts consent on a better footing than most of what surrounds it: the people in the photographs are the ones sending them. The exception is the dares performed in public, where whoever else was on that beach or in that car park had no part in the arrangement.
