The browse axes are borrowed from doujin cataloguing rather than from porn. Comics, Artists, Characters, Parodies, Collections, Releases, Genres, Tags — eight of them across the top, and two of those make a fictional character the primary key. You do not look for an act here, you look for a cast, and the front page bears that out: recognisable franchise names, a network sitcom, a fighting-game pairing, a run of animal-character strips. Rule 34 appears in its own description, which is the tidiest possible statement of the organising idea.

It is large and busy. Pagination reaches 1,357 pages, three shelves carry the front page — top of the week, recently updated, recent comics — and the collection is claimed as updated daily. Artists are indexed as people, which matters in a form where the artist is the author, and there is an advanced search, which a scheme with this many axes genuinely needs. One menu item is misspelled and duplicates the correct one two positions along, so the housekeeping is imperfect.

A plain request is refused by the front-door protection, so all of the above needed a real browser to reach. Not established anywhere a visitor can see: how many comics there are, who runs it, what an account is for, or whether any artist indexed here asked to be. The character-first arrangement is both the reason to use it and the reason to be careful with it.
