The opening paragraph of this database names the man who used to run it. Its editors describe themselves as a volunteer staff picking up where the late Peter van Aarle left off — an unusual thing for a catalogue to say about itself, and it explains the shape of everything else.

The holdings are given as 862,387 titles and 230,160 performers and directors, credited to that volunteer staff rather than to a company.

Correction is built into the structure rather than bolted on. A Submit Corrections button appears on every performer and film page, and the instructions ask that new titles arrive through the cast member's page as completely as possible, which is how an index stays consistent when nobody is paid to enforce it.

A linked blog carries a first-person account of an awards ceremony, apologising for not having posted in a while. The scope is stated openly as the American industry.

There is no catalogue of video here — only records about it, a glossary, and a contact address that is a person's mailbox.
